Lochgelly Tawse, also known as "Scotland Tawse", "Spanking Tawse" or simply "The Tawse" is a leather belt or leather strap, specially designed to impose corporal punishments in Scottish schools.

The historical name of the product "Lochgelly Tawse" comes from Lochgelly the name of the Scottish town, where is based one of the first saddleries that started the mass production (R. Philp & Son in 1884) and "Tawse" - the plural of the Scots word for the thong of a whip.

The Lochgelly Tawse is a long, narrow and flexible strap made of black vegetable tanned leather, with an arcuate narrowing at one end acting as a handle and a second end split into two or more parts with which the blows are applied.

The Lochgelly Tawse has traditionally been used in Scottish schools to strike the palms of the hands, and sometimes the handle is used for this purpose. In BDSM practice, however, The Tawse is usually used to slap the buttocks, chest (especially women), and with caution can be applied to the feet.

The presence of Lochgelly Tawse in BDSM culture is so iconic that any impact toys that visually resemble it are referred to as "Spanking Tawse", even when made of a material other than leather.

The marks left by Lochgelly Tawse on the body look extremely attractive and cannot be confused with the marks of any other impact toy.
